MALABAR FARM STATE PARK   |   MOHICAN STATE PARK

Malabar Farm is the former residence of local hero Louis Bromfield, a Pulitzer Prize winning author who had all 30 of his novels make the best-seller list. Born and raised
here, he moved to France for several years before he realized what he was missing.

“I want to find a farm down in Richland County. I mean a real honest to goodness
farm where my children can be raised. Ohio is America to me…”

Bought as a scientific lab for experiments with soil conservation and sustainable
farming practices, it also became a retreat for many of Bromfield’s Hollywood friends -
including Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, who were married on the staircase
inside his home. Bromfield used Malabar Farm as a classroom to teach how
to keep our lands fertile for the sake of our children’s children. The techniques he pioneered over 50 years ago are still being used and improved upon today.
